Chambers Going Green, Tasting Wine and Beer, Networking

By IVY WEISS Contributing Reporter Canoga Park/West Hills: “West Hills Goes Green” will be the theme of the 2008 West Hills Fall Fest taking place October 5, at the intersection of Woodlake Avenue and Saticoy Street. Between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. visitors may drop-off old computers, monitors, printers and other electronic devices for recycling. Displays will showcase ideas for conserving energy, water and natural resources. The all-day celebration will feature international foods, arts & crafts, children’s activities, boutiques and displays. Canoga Park/West Hills Chamber of Commerce and the West Hills Neighborhood Council are key sponsors. Please call the chamber, (818) 844-4222 for more details. The American Red Cross and the Chamber will sponsor a Disaster Planning Program on September 25, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Canoga Park Community Center. This free event is open to all and is presented in conjunction with the “California Big Shake Up.” Reservations are required; seating is limited. RSVP by calling (818) 884-4222. Encino: The Encino Chamber will host the 9th Annual Justice Armand Arabian Leaders in Public Service Awards Luncheon on September 25 at 11:30 a.m. at the Hilton Woodland Hills. This year’s honorees are Greg Baker, Lifelong Community Supporter; former LAPD Chief Darryl Gates; Ron Kaye, former Los Angeles Daily News Editor and community activist; Tommy Lasorda; Jayne Shapiro, children’s advocate; Councilman Greig Smith; and philanthropist Gerald Turpanjian. The 21st Annual ‘Taste of Encino’ will be October 12, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. along Ventura Boulevard, between Balboa and Amestoy. This has evolved into one of the largest street festivals in the San Fernando Valley. A variety of ethnic and American foods will be offered and local businesses and artisans will present their wares. This year will also feature a home improvement expo, a health & wellness pavilion, and a new disaster preparedness exhibition. You can even pick up a pumpkin to carve at the pumpkin patch. The Beer & Wine pavilion will present live entertainment on four stages, hosted by the California Traditional Music Society. Granada Hills: Networking Mixer September 17 at Steve Baker’s State Farm Insurance Office at 17827 Chatsworth St. 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Reservation can be made at 818-832-6611. The 8th Annual Granada Hills Street Faire will be Saturday, October 4 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Later that month there will be the Texas Hold’em Fundraiser on Saturday, October 18 from 6:30 p.m. 11 p.m. In December, the 25th Annual Granada Hills Holiday Parade will be held on Sunday, December 7. Sherman Oaks: The Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce is busily preparing for the 18th Annual Sherman Oaks Street Fair, which takes place on Sunday, October 19. The Title Sponsor is Sherman Oaks Hospital. Students of 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at four of our local public schools designed the Street Fair commemorative poster which will appear in shop windows around town. The Main Stage entertainment sub-committee has chosen bands and is in the process of confirming the precise performance schedule. 80,000 visitors expected on Sunday, October 19. Winnetka: The Winnetka Chamber is presenting its 12th Annual Oktoberfest, to be held October 17, 18 & 19 at Winnetka Park. There will be a full carnival, many vendor booths and a Beer Garden. This is the main fund raiser for the Winnetka Chamber, and they give half the net proceeds to Winnetka Park for “after school programs,” and the other half is donated to the Winnetka Community Foundation. Woodland Hills-Tarzana: The Chamber of Commerce will celebrate the 2nd Annual Fine Wine Wednesday on Wednesday, September 24th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Tarzana Community & Cultural Center, located at the corner of Ventura and Vanalden. This networking event is a special business and community experience and provides you with the opportunity to meet new and long time Chamber members in a relaxed atmosphere. Fine wines will be served to attendees by member sponsors. Hors d’oeuvres from around the world, prepared to compliment the wines, will be served.
