Plant holds up against objections

LOS ANGELES – An ethanol refinery planned near the Lancaster landfill got a final go-ahead from the county Board of Supervisors, as the board denied an appeal filed by a local environmentalist who wanted the county to do a more stringent review of the refinery’s potential environmental impacts. After hearing comments from county planners, Antelope Valley residents and representatives from BlueFire Ethanol, the Irvine-based company that wants to build the refinery, the supervisors voted 4-0 to deny the appeal.
