Encino Silent Auction Raises $11,000 for Alzheimer’s

The silent auction hosted by Inter/Media Foundation generated nearly $11,000 in auction sales and donations. According to Inter/Media, the items with the highest value were a football helmet signed by all of USC’s Heisman Trophy winners, which sold for the top bid of $2,000 and a signed collage of memorabilia from tennis superstars Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, which netted $1,500. The funds will be used by The Alzheimer’s Association in the fight to prevent the onset of dementia. Supporting the Troops The Simi Valley and Palmdale branches of Lockheed Federal Credit Union are hosting a drive to college items for care packages for U.S. military troops from Oct. 27 until Nov. 10. The assemblages will be sent overseas by nonprofit organization For The Troops in time for the holidays. Lockheed Federal is also donating $1,500 to the organization which has shipped more than 6,500 care packages overseas in the past two years. Items on the wish list include: batteries, baby wipes, beef jerky, blank holiday cards and stationery, CDs, canned tuna, DVDs, cotton swabs, hand sanitizer, lip balm, white athletic socks, granola and power bars. These items can be taken to LFCU’s Palmdale branch at 1011 Lockheed Way, Unit 12, located outside the Lockheed Martin plant, as well as LFCU’s Simi Valley branch (which is celebrating its one-year anniversary) at 53 E. Cochran Street, Suite 300, adjacent to the Courtyard by Marriott. Letters of appreciation and thanks are also solicited and will be packaged with the donations. Manna from University Village University Village, a retirement community in Thousand Oaks hosted a Food Drive that netted nearly 50 boxes and bags of food and everyday toiletries plus food coupons, paper shopping bags and cash donations for MANNA, the Conejo Valley Food Bank. Wells Fargo Donates to MEND The San Fernando Valley’s largest anti-poverty agency and food bank received a $10,000 donation from Wells Fargo. The Pacoima facility serves approximately 46,000 individuals and their families every month with seek basic food needs and other services such health care, clothing, education and training. Education in Ethiopia When a receptionist from Westlake Village-based Cydcor moved to Ethiopia to teach English and art to impoverished children, the company sent her off with a $1,000 check for the school and another $600 in donations from Cydcor employees. Team members also filled four boxes of binders, paper, padfolios, pens and pencils that were also personally delivered to the Andinet International School, a world, co-educational institution open to students of all nationalities and religions. Haven Hills Dinner California United Bank will be one of the sponsoring institutions for Haven Hills’ 31st Anniversary Horizon Dinner Oct. 30. Proceeds from the event, which will take place at the Warner Center Marriott in Woodland Hills, will benefit victims of domestic violence in the North Valley. Shawndra Rutledge, CUB vice president and compliance manager said that CUB also contributes to the organization on a monthly basis in addition to supporting her efforts as a member of the board of directors for Haven Hills.
