Valley Wildfires Still Burning

Firefighters continued battling wildfires that have burned more than 10,000 acres in the east and north central areas of the San Fernando Valley. High winds were forecast for Tuesday that may pose problems for firefighters as they deal with the flames in the Santa Susana Mountains above Porter Ranch and in the Little Tujunga Canyon area near Sylmar. The flames Monday destroyed one home in the Dexter Park area, 38 mobiles homes in Valley View Estates, and five outbuildings, The Daily News reported with attribution from the National Forest Service. The Marek fire near Lake View Terrace was 70 percent contained Tuesday morning, and the Sesnon fire that started Monday in Porter Ranch was still burning in a southwesterly direction and threatening homes in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, the Los Angeles Times reported. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger declared a state of emergency in Los Angeles and Ventura counties.
