Providence Outlines Plans for Tarzana Medical Center

Providence Health & Services outlined its plans for the Tarzana Regional Medical Center following its acquisition of the facility in a deal worth $89 million. Under Providence’s ownership, Tarzana will remain under the leadership of Chief Executive Dale Surowitz and the hospital’s 1,200 employees and current labor unions will remain in place as the collective bargaining representatives for staffers. Providence also plans to apply for Tarzana to become a Medi-Cal contracting hospital with the State of California. Additionally, it plans to invest capital to upgrade the Tarzana facility, buy state-of-the-art medical equipment and retrofit the medical center so that it meets state seismic requirements. A spiritual care department will be implemented at Tarzana to support patients of all faiths, and palliative and end-of-life care services will be expanded. It will take approximately 60 days for the acquisition to be finalized. Once the acquisition is complete, Providence will meet regularly with the employees, volunteers and medical staff at Tarzana to ensure a smooth transition.
