Actors Contract Expires

The contract between the Screen Actors Guild and the major Hollywood studios has expired raising questions whether the actors will stage a walkout. The Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers made a final offer to the actors union on June 30 that was similar to those accepted by the writers and directors unions, the Los Angeles Times reported. The two sides are in disagreement over the same issues that led to the nearly three-month Writers Guild strike how to compensate performers whose work is distributed through online streaming, digital downloads and on mobile devices. SAG leadership has not asked for a strike authorization from its membership. Negotiators from the union and the Alliance are scheduled to meet on July 1.
