Directors Call ‘Action’ on Contract Talks

The Directors Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers will begin talks on a new contract Jan. 12. The negotiations will take place in the Encino headquarters of the Alliance, the organization representing the major studios and smaller production companies. These talks begin a month after the Alliance walked away from the bargaining table in its negotiations with the Writers Guild of America. Guild members walked out Nov. 5, beginning strike that has since crippled the entertainment industry in the Los Angeles region. The main bargaining disagreement between the writers and studios compensation for work distributed online and on mobile devices is expected to be taken up in the talks between the directors and studios. The DGA and the Alliance have agreed to a news blackout on their negotiations until they reach an agreement.
