New Publisher Named for Daily News

An advertising and marketing executive has been named as the new publisher of the Los Angeles Daily News the fourth person to hold that position in less than a year. Douglas Hanes assumed the position at the Woodland Hills-based newspaper on Aug. 31. Hanes joined the Los Angeles Newspaper Group as senior vice president of advertising and marketing in 2004. Prior to joining LANG, Hanes was senior vice president of sales and marketing for the Orange County Register and served on the company’s executive committee. Hanes is well connected in the Valley and brings strong leadership and relationships to this key position, said LANG President and CEO Edward R. Moss. A revolving door has been at the paper’s publisher’s office since the October 2006 lay off of former publisher Tracy Rafter. John McKeon took over the position from Rafter until leaving in June, when he was briefly replaced by Moss, a former publisher of the Akron Beacon Journal.
