Wells Fargo Makes $33 Million Donation For Housing in West

This regular feature focuses on philanthropic activities by Valley-area companies and businesspeople. The Wells Fargo Community Development Corporation made a $33 million donation for affordable housing for low-income residents in 10 western states. The funds will be administered by the non-profit Homestead Capital to build 1,005 multi-family rental housing units in the next 18 months in the states of Oregon, Washington, California, Montana, Idaho, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Arizona. Wells Fargo has provided Homestead Capital more than $240 million in equity, bridge financing, construction and pre-development loans since 1994. CSUN Grant A $328,758 three-year grant was awarded to Cal State Northridge toward student internships with mental health organizations. The award from the California Endowment will support the university’s Career Opportunities in Research (COR) program at its College of Social and Behavioral Sciences. As part of the program, honor-level psychology undergraduates will be placed in internships at these organizations to reinforce their skills in data management and planning initiatives. Carrie Saetermoe, CSUN psychology professor and head of the COR program, said the grant “focuses both on supporting students who are traditionally underrepresented in doctoral programs in the field and emphasizes action research.” The grant will provide funding for stipends, a budget for an executive director and project director as well as field trips, workshops and program supplies. Cribs Donated Cribs 2 Teens donated $3,000 worth of merchandise to the family of the first baby born in 2007 at Simi Valley Hospital and Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. Each family received a complete nursery set with a bassinet, armoire, four-drawer chest and crib, which was manufactured by Pali of Italy. The owner of the Simi Valley-based family-owned business, Larry Phillips said, “We have lived in Simi Valley since 1983 and two of our children were born at Simi Valley Hospital.” — Vanessa Herman
