Waste Recycler Receives Environmental Award

Soil products manufacturer Agromin has been named as the recipient of the 2006 Environmental Excellence Award from the city of Ventura. Agromin, which has a location in Camarillo, processes, manages, recycles and markets wood and green waste materials. Since its creation in 1990, the company has diverted 1 million tons of yard waste from local landfills. Agromin mulches and composts Ventura’s green yard waste collected from residents and businesses and applies the resulting soil to citrus and avocado orchards owned by Limoneira Co. Using composted yard waste on agricultural land helps farmers adopt organic and sustainable farming practices that reduce use of pesticides, herbicides and water, said Agromin Chief Financial Officer Bill Camarillo, in a statement. “Ultimately, this process provides a way for city residents to close the recycling loop and keep yard waste out of landfills,” Camarillo said.
