Writer-less Leno Returns in January

“The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” returns to the airwaves in January, following a two-month break after the start of the scriptwriters strike. The “Tonight” show, filmed at NBC Studios in Burbank, will not use writers when it returns on Jan. 2, the Associated Press reported. Host Jay Leno continues to support the show’s writers who are on strike but filming new shows allows hundreds of people to return to work, the AP quoted Rick Ludwin, executive vice president, late night and primetime series for NBC. Television and film writers began their walk out Nov.5 after negotiations broke down with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers over a new contract. The two sides are far apart in agreeing how writers should be compensated when their work is distributed online and through mobile devices.
