Stanford Kurland, who has been with Countrywide Financial Corp. for 28 years, stepped down from his role as president and chief operating officer. Kurland will be replaced by David Sambol, a 21-year veteran of Countrywide who was most recently executive managing director of business segment operations. Kurland, who is leaving the company, did not announce his plans.
