Walt Disney Internet Group Enters China’s Online Game Market

North Hollywood-based Walt Disney Internet Group has entered into an agreement with Shanda Interactive Entertainment to bring Disney into China’s online game industry, the company announced Wednesday. Shanda will develop and distribute an online game based on Disney’s characters that will be available in China in spring 2007. “The market for online games in China is large and growing, and it was important for us to find the right partner,” Mark Handler, executive vice president and managing director of the International division of Walt Disney Internet Group, said in a statement. “Disney’s rich content library, combined with Shanda’s capabilities as a leading online game operator, will bring a new, unique and fun experience for the online game consumer. We actively look to bring more of our content to the online interactive entertainment market in China.”
