Salem Buys Townhall.com

Camarillo-based Salem Communications, a radio broadcaster, Internet content provider and magazine publisher focused on Christian themes, acquired Townhall.com in Washington D.C, a Web site publisher of conservative news and opinions. Townhall.com content comes from more than 115 member groups and a wide variety of conservative writers discussing public policy and current events. NielsonNetRatings recorded more than 1.2 million people perusing the Web site and 12 million page views each month. Townhall.com was founded in 1995. Edward G. Atsinger, president and C.E.O of Salem said in a press release that Townhall.com serves the same target audience and is a “highly effective means to promote across a multi-media platform.” The acquisition fits in with Salem’s strategy to expand online, according to Jim Cumbee, president of non-broadcast media at Salem. Salem plans to integrate the content of its current online operations, including a News Talk Web site with Townhall.com’s content. Salem owns and operates 34 radio stations, including Salem Radio network.
