Villaraigosa Names Ackerman among CRA Board Nominees

Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa announced his nominations to the Community Redevelopment Agency’s Board of Commissioners at the opening of the CRA’s new South Los Angeles office. He named Bruce Ackerman of West Hills, William Jackson of West Los Angeles, Joan Ling of Westchester, John Perez of Los Feliz, Mark Rios of West Los Angeles and Brenda Shockley of Olympic Park. He also re-nominated Madeline Janis-Aparicio, who lives in downtown Los Angeles. Ackerman, the only Valley nominee, is president and CEO of the Economic Alliance of the San Fernando Valley where, according to the mayor’s office, he has increased total revenue by 135 percent. He has also written a book titled “The Management Bible.” The CRA was created in 1948 to increase the supply of housing for low- and moderate-income households, renovate or replace dilapidated structures, encourage job growth and create a climate that will attract private investment. The CRA operates 32 redevelopment project areas, covering more than 21,000 acres. The mayor’s nominees are subject to City Council approval.
