Bookstein Gives $1 Million to CSUN Business School

Thanks to a $1 million donation from alumnus Harvey Bookstein, CSUN will establish its first endowed chair at the university’s College of Business and Economics. Bookstein, a founding partner of the Los Angeles accounting firm RBZ, LLP, credits CSUN with helping him get his first job. When he graduated in 1970, Bookstein arranged an interview with a local real estate company through the school. He worked for the company until starting RBZ a few years later. “(Charity) has always been important to me, but I’ve never really been able to afford to make that much of a difference,” said Bookstein. “Most of my clients are very wealthy, and I’ve always been somewhat jealous of what they’ve been able to do for others.” Bookstein had almost lost touch with the college and its faculty, but last year Todd Reinstein, a part-time CSUN instructor and tax attorney who still works with Bookstein, asked how much contact he’d had with the alumni association. Bookstein didn’t even know his alma mater had an alumni association, but the conversation prompted him to start thinking of a way to support the school. His donation will support the creation of the Harvey and Harriet Bookstein Chair in taxation at the College of Business and Economics, and will also fund the Bookstein Institute for Higher Education in Taxation.
