Hamer Carries on Legacy of Giving

Hamer Carries on Legacy of Giving Companies Best Charitable Giving Program (Small/Medium Firm): Hamer Toyota By SLAV KANDYBA Staff Reporter Lee Hamer instilled philanthropy from the beginning, and the folks running Hamer Toyota today have preserved and even added onto that legacy. Hamer, who founded an auto repair station on the corner of Sepulveda and San Fernando Mission boulevards in Mission Hills in 1939, won many awards for his giving. He was active in the development of Valley youth, sports and welfare projects and a founding member of the Holy Cross Medical Center. In 1965, Hamer became the first exclusive Toyota dealership in the U.S. and now ranks among the top 3 percent of Toyota dealers in the nation. Hamer passed away in 1995, but today’s Hamer Toyota isn’t forgetting his legacy. Every year the dealership holds the Lee Hamer Memorial Golf Classic to raise funds for local organizations such as the Tierra del Sol foundation. Members of the Hamer staff serve on local non-profit boards and are volunteers at many agencies.
